Satya Nadella
Microsoft
CEO
Redmond, Washington
Raised in Hyderabad, Satya Nadella failed an entrance exam to India's Institute of Technology, one of the region's most respected learning institutions. He "settled" for an electrical engineering degree at Mangalore University, another great school, before moving to the States and attending the University of Wisconsin.
He joined Microsoft in 1992 as an engineer, working on its ubiquitous operating system, Windows. But it was Bing, the search engine, that brought his acumen for innovation to light.
Nadella really found his footing with Azure though, the company’s cloud storage and computing technology that's quickly becoming a titan and Microsoft's foundation for the future.
Now Microsoft's CEO, Nadella leads with new approaches to collaboration in the hybrid workspace. He sees technology as the bridge between the virtual world and the real world. His focus on empathy as a leader has not only illustrated the importance of compassion in leadership, but it's been an innovation driver as well.
